Smoking cigarettes

Smoking cigarettes is not causally related to lung cancer only, though the risk for lung cancer in smokers is the highest. Smoking is related also to cancer of esophagus, pharynx and mouth, especially if it is accompanied by excessive alcohol consumption. Smoking is involved also in the etiology of stomach cancer, cancer of bladder, kidney, pancreas, leukemia, uterine cervix and probably also colorectal cancer. Not only active smoking, but also environmental tobacco smoke influences the risk of cancer.
