Methodological comments

For the most common cancers in Slovenia, we provide users with pre-prepared analyses presented in an easy-to-view format. Furthermore, the About cancer section offers general information on cancer, while you can also find a lot of additional information in our Annual Reports and the publication Survival of Cancer Patients diagnosed in 1997–2016 in Slovenia.

For each cancer, we present data on incidence, mortality and prevalence by sex. More detailed descriptions of the indicators used can be found in the Glossary section and in our Annual Reports. Additional explanatory notes for the section Basic information about each cancer:

  • The World Standard Population (Segi, 1960) is used for calculating the age-standardised rate (ASR) listed in tables. In the graphs showing incidence time trends, the standard used is the Slovenian population in 1961, whereas for the mortality trends, the standard is the Slovenian population in 1985.
  • Risk of getting cancer and dying from cancer before age 75 (cumulative risk; CR) represents the probability that a person will develop cancer or die from cancer at any time from birth to the age of 75.
  • The estimated annual change represents the average annual increase or decrease in the indicator over the last 10 years, expressed as a percentage change. Joinpoint Regression 3.0 was used for calculations.
